Threads: A clone or a rival for Twitter

Meta has just launched its  new app called Meta threads app. This app is kind of like Twitter, where you can send text messages to share your thoughts and ideas. Meta wants Threads to become popular and take users away from Twitter because Twitter hasn’t been doing so well lately.

Meta’s move to create Threads is a big and daring one. They basically made an app that is very similar to Twitter, almost like a copy of it. Some news organizations tested out Meta Threads app right after it was launched and talked about it.

They wondered if the app would disappoint people or if it would cause real problems for Elon Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and has a big presence on Twitter. So, in simple terms, Meta made a new app called Meat Threads app to compete with Twitter, and people are curious to see if it will succeed or cause trouble for Elon Musk.

App debut

The Meta Threads app was made available for download on both Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries on Wednesday at 11:00 PM. It doesn’t have any advertisements for now, which means it won’t show any annoying ads while using the app. However, its release in Europe has been delayed because people there are concerned about how their personal data will be protected.

Meta Threads app is a big competitor to Twitter, which is owned by Elon Musk. Many other apps have tried to compete with Twitter, but none of them have been able to replace it as one of the largest social media platforms in the world, even though Twitter has been struggling recently.

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, the company behind Threads, shared on his official Meta Threads app account that the app got 10 million sign-ups in just seven hours. This means a lot of people were interested in trying out the app and signed up to use it.

So, to sum it up,the Meta  Threads app became available for download on app stores in many countries without any ads, but its release in Europe was delayed due to privacy concerns. It’s a strong competitor to Twitter, and a lot of people signed up for the app in a short amount of time.

Twitter vs. Threads

If you know how Twitter looks and works, you’ll find the Meta Threads app very similar. The symbols and features like the heart shape to like a post or the circle of arrows to repost are exactly the same.

However, some people have already started complaining about a few things. They say Meta Threads app  doesn’t have a private messaging feature, hashtags or trends to help find popular content, or options to customize the timeline other than muting accounts or blocking others.

But we have to remember that the Meta Threads app is still very new. It has only been a few hours since it was officially launched, although there was an earlier version in 2019 that was discontinued. Maybe at that time, people weren’t ready for it or weren’t fed up enough with Twitter’s issues.

What sets Meta Threads app apart from other Twitter rivals is that it immediately connects with Instagram. Instagram is a big photo-sharing app used by two billion people, and Threads makes it easy for all of them to join another platform.

This makes Meta Threads app exciting right from the start, which will attract advertisers who might eventually support it. However, it seems that there won’t be any ads for the first year.

In simple terms, Threads looks a lot like Twitter, but some people are not happy with certain missing features. Threads is brand new, and in the past, there was another version that didn’t work out. What makes Threads different is that it connects with Instagram, which is a popular app. This will make it appealing to advertisers, although they won’t show ads for the first year.

How does the Meta Threads app Work?

When you open Meta Threads app, you see buttons to like, repost, reply to, or quote a post. You can also see how many likes and replies a post has. The app lets you write posts up to 500 characters long, which is more

than Twitter’s 280-character limit. You can even include links, photos, and videos up to five minutes long.

Using Meta Threads app felt like a weird mix of Twitter and Instagram, but it was easier to use than both. The feed was smooth and easy to read, although it mostly showed accounts I wasn’t following or interested in yet. Maybe that will change as more people join the app.

Unlike Twitter, Meta Threads app doesn’t use hashtags, and you can’t search for specific text or phrases. It also lets you share up to 10 photos in one post, just like on Instagram, while Twitter only allows four images.

We tested the app in the US, but now it’s available for download in app stores in over 100 countries, including Britain, Australia, Canada, and Japan.

Some people are wondering how well Instagram, which is more focused on curated photos, will mix with a Twitter-like service. How will our carefully selected and edited lives clash with the unpredictable, meme-filled, and sometimes wild world of Twitter? So far, it feels strange, unfamiliar, and kind of fun.

In simple terms, Meta Threads app is an app that works like Twitter but also reminds you of Instagram. You can like, repost, and reply to posts, and the app lets you write longer messages with pictures and videos.

It’s available in many countries, and some people are curious about how Instagram’s style will mix with Twitter’s style. Overall, trying out the Meta Threads app feels different and enjoyable.

Threads; the twitter plagiarism

The Meta Threads app looks a lot like Twitter. It has similar features like a character limit, reposting, and a feed. Mark Zuckerberg, the boss of Meta, says millions of people have signed up in just a few hours, but we should be skeptical of those numbers. Still, it seems like a lot of people are already using it.

One reason for this is because the Meta Threads app is connected to Instagram. Meta already has two billion followers on Instagram, so it’s like getting a big head start.

Some other apps like Bluesky and Mastodon didn’t have this advantage. They had to start from scratch with no users.

But even if it’s not fair, Mr. Zuckerberg doesn’t care. He has copied other apps before and had success with them. He has also used famous people on Instagram, like Shakira and Gordon Ramsay, to promote Threads.

Mr. Zuckerberg is happy about all the attention the app is getting. In social media, the more people use the app, the better it is.

The network effect is important in social media. When all your friends or people you want to hear from are on a platform, you feel like you have to join too. It’s hard to create this effect, but when it happens, it can be powerful.

Now let’s talk about some problems with Threads. Unlike Twitter, which has separate feeds for recommendations and tweets from people you follow, Meta Threads app blends them all together. This might get annoying.

Also, Meta Threads apps  don’t work well on computers yet. It’s mainly for smartphones.

There’s no trending information, so it’s hard to see what’s popular.

And just like on Twitter, you can still buy a blue verification tick for a monthly fee.

Mark Zuckerberg called the app an “initial version,” so it feels like it’s just starting out. It does the basics well, but it’s not fancy right now.

Overall, Meta’s boss is probably very happy with how the Meta Threads app is doing. Despite the negative press he’s had in the past, he’s trying to show that he wants a friendly social media platform. Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, sarcastically commented on this, but it seems like people are still using the Meta Threads app anyway.

If the Meta Threads app continues to be successful, it could be a real problem for Elon Musk.

There is a catch when you try to delete your Threads account

Unfortunately, it’s not easy to settle the matter with the Meta Threads app by simply signing up and deleting your account if you don’t like it. Once you create a Threads profile, Meta (the company behind Threads) doesn’t let you delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram account too.

According to Threads’ privacy policy, you can deactivate your Threads profile, which means other users won’t be able to see it. However, all your posts and content will still be stored on Threads’ servers unless you manually delete them one by one. If you decide to delete your Instagram account, your Threads data will still be kept on the servers for up to 90 days.

This might not seem like a big deal at first, but having unused social media accounts can feel unsettling, especially if you’ve already tried to delete them.

Additionally, Meta doesn’t allow you to change your Meta Threads app username without changing your Instagram username as well. This can be frustrating for people who want to use the Meta Threads app professionally while keeping their Instagram account for fun things like memes and fandom content.

One of the reasons we enjoy having different social media accounts is because they let us showcase different sides of ourselves online. For example, you might be comfortable having your dad as a friend on Facebook but not wanting him to see your TikTok content.

Meta’s insistence on connecting Meta Threads app to Instagram limits its flexibility, and it gives an opportunity for other apps like Bluesky to gain an advantage in the competition to become the new Twitter.

Is it really better than Twitter?

Meta’s version of Twitter, called Meta Threads app , feels very similar to using Twitter itself. It has features like likes, retweets, and following, which are almost identical to the original Twitter.

However, Twitter has become more difficult to use and less user-friendly since Elon Musk took it over. So, when I tried out Threads, it was refreshing to be able to see and interact with content smoothly.

Meta is banking on this user experience and openly acknowledges that the chaos on Twitter has created an opportunity for a new product. In an interview, Adam Mosseri, the head of product at Instagram (which is owned by Meta), mentioned that they saw a need for a new platform due to the recent unpredictability on Twitter. They wanted to build something open and beneficial for the community already using Instagram.

As a tech writer who has extensively covered concerns about privacy, Meta’s tendency to copy competitors’ apps, and the unchecked power of the tech industry, it’s difficult for me to admit that I actually enjoyed using Threads.

I already use WhatsApp and Instagram daily and have a somewhat inactive Facebook account. It raises the question: Do I really want to share more of my personal data with one of the biggest tech companies in the world?
